The path of natural wellness and vibrational healing led me to the study of energy, frequency and vibration; and how through thoughtform energy one could create healing energy patterns though verbal positive affirmations. I then had to ask whether by mentally repeating specific targeted positive affirmations over and over again it could create both energetic and physiological changes in the entire being, which would promote integrated wellness of Body Mind and Spirit. I began to research this simple concept dating back to the mid-1600s and found a great deal of evidence that positive thoughts change and improve lives.

During the 1920s Emile Coué was a French pharmacist who pioneered the method of autosuggestion, a form of self-hypnosis. In this work he focussed on the role of positive thinking in self-improvement. In doing so he proposed that this aided bridging the gap between behaviour and cognition, a concept that was promoted by Blaise Pascal – a French mathematician and philosopher 250 years earlier. He is also known for encouraging his patients to say to themselves 20–30 times each night before going to sleep, “Every day in every way, I am getting better and better”. He also discovered that when giving patients their medicine and delivering positive suggestion at the same time, it proved to be a more effective cure than prescribing medicine alone. This was cemented by Napoleon Hill, the Transcendentalist and Author who, as the adviser to Franklin D Roosevelt in 1933, positioned the hallmark expression:

“What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”

 

In the mid-70s Dr Norman Shealy, president of the American Holistic Medical Association elaborated on the work of Coué, adding imagery, relaxation techniques, and founded Biogenics, a most beneficial therapy in dealing with chronic pain. Shealy and many other doctors established that affirmations could relieve pain and stress, significantly improving quality of life for the patient.

 

Jose Silva, a parapsychologist, developed the Silva Method; this popular technique of ‘programming’ literally enables the person to reprogram their mind, body and spirit. The method is based on his teaching that as people repeat their affirmations, a shift occurs in the physical and emotional body; and old messages and resultant beliefs about oneself are replaced with positive life affirming messages and beliefs.

 

My research and use of the healing power of positive affirmation has not only changed and improved my life, but the lives of many others. By changing our thoughts, by shifting our consciousness into healthier mental and emotional patterns; our emotional, mental and physical bodies become balanced and aligned promoting health and elevated wellbeing.
