The Sacral Chakra, the second chakra – Svadhisthana in Sanskrit is sometimes named the Spleen/Splenic chakra and is located just above the pubic bone. The Hindu symbol of this chakra is the lotus flower with six petals with a white circle in the middle. It emanates with colour ORANGE.

The Sacral Chakra leads us from the basic existence to what makes life worth living. Sometimes referred to as the sexual chakra, as it involves our sexuality, libido and the acceptance of self as a sexual being. It is also associated with passion, creativity as well as joy. This is the chakra of delight in the world. If it works harmoniously, we have a passion for life and we are able enjoy our lives and play with the abandon of children, and we are very creative. The Sacral Chakra is related to the undisturbed flow of emotions and the expression of feelings.

Our actions are motivated by the Sacral Chakra particularly between the ages of 8 to 14. As body awareness develops, our interpersonal relationships, particularly romantic relationships are influenced by this Chakra. This is also where our deep emotional responses are registered and where suppressed emotions may get locked into our muscle structures and subtle energy systems. They can manifest as anxiety, anger, frustration and aggression depriving us of the enjoyment of playfulness and creativity.

Working on and balancing the Sacral Chakra can help us keep our ‘joie de vie’, our exuberance and joy of living. It will release blocks, stress and trauma and detoxify the whole system. Some of the physical disorders which might occur when this chakra is not functioning to its full potential include: bladder and kidney disorders, circulatory problems, intestinal complaints, low energy and dysfunction of the reproductive organs. An over-energised Sacral Chakra can cause you to become over-emotional, aggressive, over-ambitious, manipulative, over-indulgent and may lead to sexual dysfunction. When under–energised it can create feelings of over-sensitivity, timidity, resentment, distrust and guilt. When this Chakra’s energy is in harmony you will be in touch with your emotions, trusting towards others you will flow comfortably with the process of life.

The aural tone of the Sacral Chakra is ‘O’ pronounced ‘o’ as in h’O’me. The element associated with the Sacral Chakra is water. Energise your meditation space with, a soft gentle water feature or a glass bowl of clear water and with some orange crystals placed at the bottom. When self-healing the Sacral Chakra, enjoy a relaxing shower or bath and feel the water as it flows over your body becoming one with the water, visualise a gentle flowing stream and imagine you are floating on the river of life without a care in the world. Allow yourself to go with flow of life; let your spirit guide you. Use positive affirmations… “I flow easily with the process of life”.

The Sacral Chakra and the Solar Plexus Chakra are the centre of our ‘gut’ level intuition and where our clairsentience is evolved. In the tarot the Sacral Chakra is represented by ‘The Moon’ and ‘The Lovers’ and is often depicted as the crescent moon which symbolises the receptivity of the womb. This Chakra is often associated with Archangel Zadkiel and Ascended Master St Germain. It is also the home of our inner child. The inner child is our “Feeling Self”, to embrace the child within is live authentically, to reject the child within, leaves a painful feeling of emptiness. An acknowledged, active and healthy inner child is one of the best preventions for burnout and disease. It is the source of humour, play and rejuvenation. When the inner child is allowed to be itself and is welcome within, it can lead us to a wellspring of infinite wisdom and joy.

In order to be in contact with our emotions, love and feelings we have to be in touch with the vulnerable child within us. There is a child in us that is very playful however; we do also have a vulnerable child, with high sensitivity to environment and the energy of others, within. The vulnerable child often comes out in expressions of sorrow, grief, fear, loneliness, hopelessness, exhaustion, disappointment, abandonment, illness and depression. The child within is the seat of our emotions and is one of the most important aspects of ourselves to connect with. The child is the closest part of our personality to our spiritual essence and as we resolve to make contact with our inner child we begin to re-connect with soul. Moreover our inner child is infinitely creative and imaginative; by embracing our inner child, through a healthful, balanced Sacral Chakra so we open up our creativity, imagination and spontaneity. Further to this Sacral balance promotes the awakening of the Kundalini, the connection to the Soul of Soul; the agent of self-transformation on the physical, mental, emotional, psychic and spiritual levels

Kundalini is a Sanskrit term relating to the energy flow that stems from the base of the spine interacting with each chakra in turn, and then coming to full force at the crown. There is a yin/yang aspect to the flow, so the kundalini is often represented as two intertwined snakes wound round a staff, ancient in origin interestingly, the symbol widely used in allopathic medicine. When the twin flow is equal it merges balanced and complete, enlightenment and the realisation of the highest potential results. When the kundalini is awakened, it will begin a great change in your life, enabling you to live to your highest potential awakening insight, creativity and energy. This encompasses a strong sensual sense of the self, with balanced esteem and self-worth, a release of ego and unconditional love of self and others couples with deep spiritual understanding. Kundalini is explained by some as ‘the fire of the Holy Spirit dormant in the human body’. It awakens in purity and climbs up to the Tif’eret (heart), where it becomes light, moving up to the Keter (crown), at which point it is transformed into a full awareness of the divine, or, as some sources put it, the awareness of the sacred presence of God connecting ‘All That Is’

Many energy healing modalities specifically Western Reiki, include chakra healing in their healing sessions. A practitioner will place their hands in the area of the lower torso. When the healing session is finished, the Sacral Chakra should be open to universal energies and universal life force energy should flow more freely throughout the body. According to proponents of combining Reiki and Chakra Clearing, the body will be better able to heal itself and restore balance. Both physical and psychological problems associated with the Sacral Chakra will be reduced as this healing takes place.

Some practitioners work with sound, toning and mantras and may choose to use a particular mantra as part of the process of clearing the Sacral Chakra. Other practitioners may choose to use aromatherapy: Ylang-ylang oil and Sandalwood are most beneficial. Many holistic healers use crystals to balance the Sacral Chakra. Orange crystals act as a stimulant and are a powerful tonic for the Sacral Chakra. Healing crystals include: Carnelian, Amber, Orange Calcite, Apache Tear, Sunstone, Tigers Eye and metal Copper. The colouration of a crystal results from how it interacts with light, and this is dependent upon the atomic structure of the mineral.

The human body is keyed to colour each part of the body resonates to a different colour; we can use the appropriate colour to harmonise our vibrations and restore equilibrium. There are psychological associations with each colour and colours can be linked with moods. Reds, oranges and yellows are warm and expansive and give a feeling of energy, excitement and joy. Orange promotes self-reliance and practical knowledge. It is genial, optimistic, tolerant, benign, and warm hearted. A joyful colour, orange, combines the power of red with the wisdom of yellow.

The human energy field cannot be viewed in isolation; the body, mind and spirit are not independent of one another they are intimately intertwined. A philosophy that focuses on only one aspect is an incomplete approach. A combination of energy healing modalities such as Reiki and Crystal Healing combined with metaphysical techniques, counselling and deeper consciousness coupled with the desire of the individual for personal transformation and healing is a more considered, beneficial and effective approach.

With a balanced Sacral Chakra you can expect to experience the joy of life, healthy physical and emotional relationships. Your imagination and creativity will be heightened and your spirit will simply soar.
